C'est la Vie is a 1966 Charlie Morgan 34.

Her home port is Everglades City, FL. Our typical cruising area is Southwest Florida, the Florida Keys, the Southeastern Atlantic Seaboard, and the Bahamas. We are C'est la Vie's third owners and purchased her in 2005. We continue to maintain and update this classic vessel. The final touches on the bimini project

We added two sappelle wood strips, the same type of wood as the gallows, to the aft edge of the bimini top.  The  strips act as a gutter to shunt rainwater to the outer edges of the top and also provide an anchor point for the fasteners used to attach the bimini extension.
Next we installed the sunbrella extension  The final fitting involved correct placement of the grommets for the dot twist fasteners on the upper hem and sewing on the correct length webbing to the lower hem.

The extension will provide us with more sun and weather protection while at anchor or docked.

Next steps? We have created a pattern for a foredeck tarp that will shelter the forward hatch and ports in the vee berth.  We hope that the tarp will allow leave the hatch and ports open during the common tropical afternoon and evening showers.

Departure?  We are watching Invest 93 a low pressure system due south of the Dominican Republic.  We will wait for a more definitive forecast for our area before casting our dock lines.  With C'est la Vie projects winding down and work responsibilities at a minimum we enjoying the opportunity to visit local friends.  Unless Invest 93 is forecast to threaten this area the earliest departure date will be Saturday, June 26.

  1. Jeff,
I've enjoyed reading all of the posts. The boat is looking great! Looking forward to reading the new posts about your travels. The work you and Anne have done is inspiring...I can relate as I work on many projects on our 'land yacht' as we get ready to head west for the rest of the summer.
    take care,

  2. Tommy, Thanks for the kudos. It is good to hear from you. Is there a blog or site that follows the Holden land yacht? It would be great to see some of your projects & travels.

  3. To be honest, I'm just lazy when it comes to posting. I've posted several projects on the Sprinter forums, but not a blog. It would be a good thing to do, because many Sprinter owners have commented on the approach we have taken to 'pimping the ride'. But I can relate to many of your projects. We have sewn up blinds, no-seeum screens, window/sun shades, tarps, made a fold out futon frame, etc. It has been time consuming, but actually really fun and gratifying. I'll let you know if I get motivated to post something.
