Interior Brightwork - a shiny end in sight

Cool, sunny days for early March and some time off have conspired to accelerate the refinishing of C'est la Vies interior brightwork.

salon table, starboard cabinet face, and some trim in process
The breezy, cool weather has kept the bugs at bay so no screen tent is required for working in the yard.  Devoting full days to the project has allowed me to applying the Bristol Finish wet on wet and thus build up the coats quickly.

All the wood fixed in C'est la Vie's cabin is now complete.

Salon cabinet completed, the hinged table section is visible in the first image

Many fixtures removed for refinishing are back in place.

Of course I've saved the best for last... louvered doors for the wardrobe locker.

Two unfinished  pieces... wardrobe locker doors on left and folding table on right.
I have not discovered a good method for sanding louvers.  Anyone have a suggestion?

  1. Looks great! Those bugs can be so aggravating when painting or doing brightwork, so it's nice that the cooler temperature kept them away.

  2. Do you have a Fein Tool? What I've done for sanding louvers is this: take a used cutting blade, and grind the toothed part smooth(so if you slip, it doesn't cut your work. Well, not as fast). Next take a piece of adhesive-backed sandpaper (like the round ones you stick to pads on orbital sanders) and trace the blade so as to fit as many pieces as possible on one disc. Next, cut out the patterns. Stick one to the bottom of the dulled blade, crank up the Fein Tool, and you have a tiny oscillating sanding pad that will fit in between the louvers. Hope this helps, not a fun job!

  3. Kyle, Thanks for the suggestion. I can visualize your solution, but unfortunately do not have the Fein Tool to make it a reality on my end.

  4. Glue sandpaper to a paint stir stick. Mine fit but it was close. Use it just like a file. Paper in the middle and even pressure on front and back. Ken
